Nathan Smith (fiddle), Rob McLaren (banjo), Ben Wright (guitar), Kyle Kirkpatrick (dobro), and Tim O’Reilly (bass) are The Barrel Boys, an acoustic string band based in Ontario. The band’s sound is built around rich vocal harmonies and virtuosic instrumental playing, and their unique repertoire of original material is informed by their fluency in classic bluegrass, old-time, country, and Americana. Each member contributes to songwriting and vocals, providing a wide stylistic range within the band’s sound. In addition to being great songwriters, The Barrel Boys are also seasoned performers. In classic bluegrass fashion, they share a single vocal microphone that delivers a beautiful vocal blend. The band was established in 2012 and released its first recording, Early On, in 2014. They have two other full- length recordings and a seven-song EP, Gospel Hour (2015). This EP was recorded live off the floor and contains hymns performed with stunning vocals. The Barrel Boys are sure to put their killer picking and fun-loving, down-toearth stage presence on display in their first-ever Folk Harbour appearance.
