Ruthie Foster

Biography

Ruthie Foster has a resumé that most musicians can only dream about. She has been nominated for a Best Blues Album Grammy three times in a row. And those nominations are in addition to her seven Blues Music Awards, three Austin Music Awards, the Grand Prix du Disque award from the Académie Charles-Cros in France, a Living Blues Critics’ Award for Female Blues Artist of the Year, and the title of an “inspiring American Artist” as a United States Artists 2018 Fellow.  The Texas native grew up in a family of gospel singers and always knew that her life would revolve around music. Often compared to Bonnie Raitt and Aretha Franklin, Ruthie combines gospel, jazz, folk, blues, and soul to create a sound all her own. Her 10-album discography includes three releases that earned Grammy nominations (The Truth According to Ruthie Foster, 2009, Let It Burn, 2012, and Promise of a Brand New Day, 2014).  Ruthie’s most recent release, Joy Comes Back (2017), is an astonishing collection that emotes love, hope, and, yes, joy.  Rolling Stone has described Ruthie as “pure magic to watch and hear;” we are thrilled to welcome Ruthie to Folk Harbour for the first time.
