Kat Danser

Biography

Kat Danser’s music navigates a paddle steamer, from the muddy banks of the Mississippi Delta, downriver toward a big ol’ full moon over New Orleans. Dubbed “Queen of the Swamp Blues,” this Edmonton-based guitar slinger, songsmith, and blazing vocalist channels the spirit of roots, blues, and gospel music pioneers.  In addition to being an award-winning musician who tours extensively, Kat has recently completed a PhD in Ethnomusicology from the University of Alberta. She is a fitting keynote speaker and featured artist for this year’s Folk Steps on the theme of “the roots of the blues.” Her fifth record, Goin’ Gone, is set for release this year and is a collaboration between Kat and Juno-award winning producer Steve Dawson.  Kat’s previous Folk Harbour Festival appearances were in 2008 and 2010. She returns this year with her sweet vocals, lyrical genius, and instrumental prowess, to deliver what are sure to be memorable performances.
