Joel Plaskett

Biography

Lunenburg native Joel Plaskett’s influences are wide-ranging; it’s not surprising, therefore, that his own music spans indie-rock, singer-songwriter, folk, pop, and more. Critically acclaimed and multi-award winning (including Juno, ECMA, Music NS prizes, and a spot on the Polaris short list, to name but a few), Joel writes with clever lyrics and catchy hooks – no wonder some of his songs are considered East Coast anthems. He is not only a first-rate musician on his own, but also a generous collaborator and a noted producer of some of the best musicians the East Coast has to offer. His discography is impressive and extensive and includes offerings with Thrush Hermit, the Joel Plaskett Emergency, as well as solo recordings. Of interest to Folk Harbour fans, in 2017, he released Solidarity with his father – and Folk Harbour co-founder – Bill. Joel’s live concerts are energetic, engaging, and always entertaining. While many consider him a nationally adored icon, around here, we consider him a favourite son of Folk Harbour. Joel has three previous Festival appearances, and he plays this year in the honoured spot of closing the 2019 Folk Harbour Festival.
