Jenny Whiteley

Jenny Whiteley

Biography

Jenny Whiteley grew up steeped in music, as she often went along for the ride to concerts and festivals where her father and uncle – Chris and Ken Whiteley – were performing. It was not long before Jenny and her brother, Dan, were singing and playing washtub and washboard with Chris and Ken in The Junior Jug Band. After a stint at Concordia University, Jenny returned to Toronto where she immersed herself in bluegrass music, taught herself to play guitar, and began to pursue her songwriting career in earnest. Clearly the right choice, Jenny is noteworthy for her rare feat of winning a Juno for her first two recordings: her self-titled 2000 debut and her 2003 follow-up, Hopetown. Her subsequent albums, Dear (2006) and Forgive or Forget (2009), also earned glowing reviews from critics in North America and Europe. Jenny previously played Folk Harbour in 2005 and 2011, and we are delighted that she returns to display her engaging stage presence, poignant lyrics, and angelic voice. She will be joined on stage by her musical and life partner, Joey Wright.
