Catherine MacLellan

Biography

Daughter of Canadian folk legend, Gene MacLellan, Catherine MacLellan is increasingly carving out her own space in the Canadian musical landscape. A fine singer-songwriter in her own right, she has released seven recordings, including the 2018 Juno-winning, The Raven’s Sun. Her writing is beautiful and evocative, as she seeks “truth in inspiration and light in the dark.” She launched her solo career in 2004 with the release of Dark Dream Midnight and has captivated audiences since then. Her most recent venture is both a stunning album of her father’s songs and a multi-media theatre piece: If It’s Alright With You – The Songs of Gene

MacLellan (2017). Whether performing her own songs or those of others, Catherine always takes to the stage with grace and charm. Her inimitable stage presence allows her to form deep emotional connections through her intimate lyrics, while also providing light-hearted, easy-going fun. No wonder she is rapidly becoming a Folk Harbour favourite, having played our Festival previously in 2012 as a solo act, and in 2016 as part of The Eastern Belles. Catherine also played at Folk Fiesta! in March of this year.
