Based in St. John’s, NL, Port-Aux-Poutines fuses French-Canadian and Newfoundland musical traditions. Port-Aux-Poutines is made up of singer-songwriters and multi-instrumentalists, Jenna Maloney, from St. John’s, and Axel Belgarde, originally from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Québec. Through original compositions, traditional folk songs, and translations of Newfoundland songs, the band shares the stories and legends of the province and celebrates the heritage of Francophonie in Newfoundland. The duo released its self-titled debut recording in 2023. There is clearly an appetite for this combination of rich musical cultures as Port-AuxPoutines—formed in 2022—has already won a Music NL Award (Artiste/Groupe Francophone de l’Année 2023) and earned other nominations besides. Jenna and Axel have played many kitchen parties, concerts, and festivals where they share their love of Franco-Newfoundland music, and we welcome them to Folk Harbour for the first time.
