Based in Boston, Mass., Laura Cortese & The Dance Cards is a string group united by the love of traditional American music and the ways it can be expressed in a chamber-folk setting. Displaying a huge sonic range, the group spans styles of old-time, bluegrass, country, and Celtic music, all while maintaining solid grounding in traditional fiddle styles. The trio’s songs can go from hard-driving to heart-breaking deftly and with a sensitivity of players beyond their years. Laura Cortese (fiddle, vocals) and the Dance Cards (Valerie Thompson, cello and Natalie Bohrn, bass) have toured the US and Europe, performing in every imaginable setting from farmers’ markets to music festivals, and house concerts to concert halls, while hosting workshops on fiddling, grooving, dancing and singing in between. Laura Cortese & the Dance Cards previously brought their bold and elegant string arrangements to the Folk Harbour Festival in 2013.
