Who we are and what we do:

The Lunenburg Folk Harbour Society is a non-profit, volunteer-run, charitable organization that presents world-class folk music to audiences in accessible, intimate settings in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Our flagship event is the annual Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival. We present Weekends at the Opera House twice per year (Fall and Spring) in our venue the Lunenburg Opera House. Our summer series, Saturdays in the Park, runs from June to September at the Lunenburg Bandstand.

Position Description:

We are hiring two Festival Support Staff students/youth. The Festival Support Staff work with other staff, board members, and committee chairs to present the Society’s annual four-day Festival on August 8 to 11, 2024. Employment is on a full-time basis from approximately May to August.  The position is at the direction of the Administrative Services Coordinator and the Vice President.  Working hours will be scheduled to ensure the office is open at consistent times each week.  Some evening and weekend hours may be required.

Applicants must be post-secondary students returning to school in September and/or between the ages of 15 and 30 years as per our funding requirements.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the general operations of the Folk Harbour office as required day-to-day
  • Assist the Marketing and Publicity committee with promotion of the festival, public concerts and all other events, including social media marketing
  • Answer public inquiries, whether by phone, email, or in-person
  • Process and track telephone and in-person ticket sales on a daily basis
  • Provide committee support as required to ensure that inquiries are answered, forwarded to the appropriate committee chair and that committees have access to general office resources
  • Assist with recordkeeping as required
  • Assist throughout the Festival weekend on an on-call basis
  • Collect performer services information, including but not limited to: billeting needs, transportation forms and technical riders from performers and/or their agents. Compile and maintain a database of this information
  • Recruit volunteers and maintain a volunteer database
  • Assemble performer and emcee packages and schedules
  • Create venue signage
  • Produce site packages for all venues
  • Create nametags for performers, volunteers, etc.

Who and what we’re looking for:

The Festival Support Staff must be post secondary students returning to full time studies in September AND/OR between the ages of 15 and 30, due to funding requirements.

The ideal candidate for this position will have the following:

  • A willingness to learn and try new things
  • Resourcefulness, creativity, and ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to communicate, organize, and multi-task
  • Interest in presenting and promoting folk music
  • Ability to keep accurate records with attention to detail
  • Ability to work with a wide range of volunteers and staff
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Experience with not for profit organizations is an asset
  • Familiarity with standard office equipment and ability to utilize current software programs including Microsoft Office Suite
