2020 Summer Concert Series Events

NOV. 26th. Livestream concert featuring Matthew Byrne.

The Lunenburg Folk Harbour Society is very pleased to present award-winning traditional singer and guitarist Matthew Byrne for a very special live-streamed performance on November 26 at 8 pm!

Tickets are available now through Matthew’s website by clicking here.  Ticket-holders will receive an exclusive link to the live stream.

This show is part of a very unique digital “tour” that Matthew is doing through the last week of November where he’ll be performing for audiences from California to the UK. We’re very excited to once again present him to the LFHS audience.

We’re encouraging audiences to send us requests and questions ahead of time for Matthew to make this performance as unique and interactive as possible.

“Possibly the finest interpreter of traditional songs in the country.” — RODDY CAMPBELL, PENGUIN EGGS MAGAZINE

“His reverence and respect for his material, along with his unabashed exploration of new songs and his staggeringly beautiful voice, makes for the rarest and most vital type of folk performer.” — TOM POWER, CBC MUSIC

Born into a family of Newfoundland music makers, Matthew Byrne’s repertoire is heavily influenced by that unique musical lineage – the weaving of a great story with a beautiful melody – and he supports this tradition with powerful vocals, polished guitar work, and a presence that fills the room. His repertoire transcends time and place and his live performance reminds us how satisfying traditional songs can be when stripped down to their basic elements.

We work hard to bring you music all year long. Our concert series features a range of established and up-and-coming artists, both local and out-of-province. We strive to present four concerts in the fall and four in the spring. Our venues change throughout the town but the calibre of performers on stage is consistently top notch. You can expect smaller venues with unique and intimate performances with the artists as well as larger venues offering a bigger musical experience.

Folk Fiesta! is our annual fundraiser and considered part of the concert series. The fiesta strives to give our audience a glimpse of the upcoming festival lineup. The evening typically consists of 3 performers who are scheduled to perform at that year’s festival, a silent auction, cash bar, canteen, photo booth, and merchandise tables to boot!

The Young Folks concert is also a staple in our series lineup. This concert brings to the stage young local performers who have been mentored and/or received scholarships through Lunenburg Folk Harbour Society. It’s an opportunity to put these hardworking students in the spotlight to have their voices heard—we are committed to inspiring the next generation of festival performers!
