About the Festival
Finding Folk Harbour
Folk Harbour is as much a concept, a feeling, as a place, a time, or a festival. Born from a shared passion for music, it's about finding yourself immersed for a few short days in a happening where your senses are fed with musical delights, scenic beauty, and shared experiences.
The Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival brings the best in traditional and contemporary folk music to the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Site of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. We are Nova Scotia's longest-running folk festival and have showcased great Nova Scotian, Canadian, and international talent during our 23 years. We are proud to have introduced many of the Maritimes' best-loved musicians to a wider audience on our stages.
Lunenburg literally bursts at the seams with music and Festival goers during the four days of Folk Harbour. With a long history of good weather (knock wood), fantastic music, and unmatched atmosphere, music lovers of all ages are in for non-stop entertainment.
In the mornings the Town's wonderful historic churches and halls come alive with workshops in dance and singing as well as youth music programs and The Alma Houston talks for more academic-minded folk. Sunday morning everyone comes together for the Festival's most popular event, our gospel concert.
Come afternoon festival-goers have another choice to make—whether to stay put at one of our spectacular stage locations-The Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic's wharf, The Heritage Bandstand, and St. John's Anglican Church—or drop by one of the hands-on workshops taking place in various halls. For the kids, the Children's Stage offers a continuous menu of music, author readings, and arts and crafts.
In the evening all the action moves to the big white tent atop Blockhouse Hill that host our main stage. Breathtaking vistas of Lunenburg's front and back harbours, stiff maritime breezes, and wonderful music combine to produce a magical experience for audience and performers alike.
And that's why, once you've found us, like most folks, you'll want to return to a place called Folk Harbour!
