2010 Bandstand Series

Detailed Performer Information

July 4—Chester Dixieland Band—A crack group of talented musicians, the Chester Dixieland Band kicks off the season at the Bandstand with their dynamic, spirited traditional music. Expect to be tapping your toes to the syncopations of these master players. Part of the famous Chester Brass, they enjoy every opportunity to really let the good times roll, Dixieland style.
July 11—Morgan Davis—For nearly four decades Chester (Blandford) resident Morgan Davis has been on the road traveling across Canada, the United States and Europe. His electrifying performances draw from a rich tradition of country blues, as well as his own contemporary songs, infused with a good measure of wit, a dab of local colour and a large dose of humour.
July 18—Clas Larsson Quartet -  Since 2000, Clas Larsson (sax, clarinet), Tim Worthington (guitar), Robert Clark (bass), and Jordi Comstock (drums) have been gracing the South Shore with vibrant jazz music, performing in clubs, for wedding, parties, special events, dances and at the TD Atlantic Jazz Festival (Halifax) 2007 and 2008. Check out their two CDs Studio Session and Jazz at the Opera House.
July 25—Tuesday Night Band—A long-time Halifax favourite band, this crew of super-powered musical talent is co-directed by trumpeter Frank Ridgeway, saxophonist Bryan Crocker, guitarist and former CBC producer Bob Bauer and saxophonist Tobias Beale. Big band standards, progressive jazz, Latin, pop, funk—these folks have a huge repertoire, all played with style and a great sense of fun. They love playing at venues around the South Shore, particularly at Bandstands.
August 1—Anna Ludlow—Since her teens Anna Ludlow has been passionately crafting her signature Mainland fiddle-fusion style. In addition to a busy solo career, Anna is principal fiddler with the hit show DRUM! Her original arrangements take a fresh, edgy approach to her beloved traditional fiddling, respecting the roots of the music while giving it new relevance by adding electronic, jazz and blues elements and even her own vocals.
August 8—Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival-The 25th annual Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival will take over the bandstand with music from Jeff Davis and the Lustre Brothers, Katherine Heim, Amy Smith, Carmel Mikol, Maria Dunn, Gadelle and more.  For more information about the weekend, check out the rest of this web site.
August 15 -Claudine Langille and Ronnie MacEachern—These talented acoustic musicians will brighten your Sunday afternoon with their lively assortment of old-time folkie standards, with some of Ronnie's originals thrown in for good measure. Claudine is home visiting in Martin's River from Connecticut where she plays with Gypsy Reel. You'll know Ronnie from different local gigs including his role in The Klunkers.
August 22 - Paul and Eilidh Buchanan—In a subtle marriage of fiddle and piano, folk and pop, traditional and contemporary, Paul and Eilidh have been busy creating, performing, recording and teaching music together since their auspicious meeting at the 2004 Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival. They have fashioned a style that blends diverse musical and territorial influences and is the foundation of Buchanan's Music Centre (a Folk Harbour Sponsor) in Mahone Bay.
August 29— Saucy Jack—Peter Mason and Scott McKone have been keeping Lunenburg County Saturday pub goers well entertained all winter; now they bring their lively mixture of upbeat traditional and popular tunes to the hillside in Lunenburg. From The Beatles to Johnny Cash, you won't be able to keep yourself from singing along.
September 5—Mahone Bay Legion Swing Band—This big, swing-style group will delight you with those famous sounds their South Shore audiences have come to love. Bob Warren and his enthusiastic musicians will fill the area around the Bandstand with great melodies covering the eras of traditional to contemporary big-band music.
September 12, 4PM* —Kelly Blair - Bridgewater singer/songwriter Kelly Blair has been putting words to music for most of her life crafting stories that speak of her passion for life and especially her beloved South Shore home. She will be joined for this performance by musical friends Kris Richards, Mary Chisholm and Rachel Weagle. *Note the later start time. Please attend the annual Lunenburg Seamen's Service at 2PM.
September 19—Collage—Whether it's a traditional ballad, one of band member Hank Middleton's original new classics or a ‘70s standard, the beauty is in the harmonious balance of these master voices combined with superb musicianship. In addition to Hank, the crew includes Sharon Jackson, Vonda Laffin, Janet Rae and Dave Bell. Their CD Scenes of Home, was released last fall.
September 26—Kinderchor and Skinners Studio Students—Kinderchor is an outstanding Lunenburg youth choir with a repertoire of German and English folk songs, delightfully presented in traditional costume. During the show director Jo Skinner will also introduce a selection of her own studio's talented and often-award-winning students.
